Sturdy, Heavy Duty Solution

FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) is a competition for students in grades 7-12. Each team designs, builds, and programs a robot to compete against other teams throughout the year. Every season the end goal and rules change.

The Techno Warriors Advanced, FTC Team 3486, is constantly looking for ways to improve upon their design and build. The students said they “wanted something sturdier and more heavy-duty this year so as not to get knocked down by other machines.” This led them to research and discover 80/20 aluminum T-slot profiles and parts.

Do-It-Yourself Capabilities

The team found that they could self-machine the products without a large machine shop or welding capabilities. What’s more, the frame was stronger and more rigid while not sacrificing the lightness they needed for a faster robot. Another great benefit; 80/20 profiles and parts are modular, meaning they could quickly make changes. This is also beneficial for the team because they are able to reuse the product in future years.

One of the team members explained that “the weight, strength, size, cost, and connectors really make it an amazing product that we really enjoyed using and will continue to use in the future.” How cool is that?!
